I suffered from symptoms of pregnancy in April and later it was found that I had suffered from miscarriage. However the symptoms of pregnancy are reappearing. Shall I take test again?

Last Updated - Fri, Mar 16 2018

Detailed Question:

Periods cycle is regular of 28-29 days, and last time periods were on April 1. I had intercourse on April 14, in a week, started vomiting, and laziness, which I ignored and swelling in breast, mood swings, and then I missed periods and did a test on may 3 and it was negative. I consulted with  doctor. She gave me pre-moult  and on May 10 I saw bleeding and it turned to heavy bleeding, and cramps, and headache, weakness. I visited doctor again, and she found it a case of miscarriage in early pregnancy, and gave me another medicine trapic to overcome pain. Now even its not technically 48 hours and I'm feeling no blood just some brown spotting, less blood. and again swelling in my breast. Shall I take test again or what shall I do?

Delayed Periods

The signs and symptoms you mentioned were indeed of pregnancy. However since you have already had a miscarriage, it will take time for the pregnancy hormone hcg to leave your body and for the symptoms to end. What you can do is to follow up now with results of an Ultrasound Abdomen & Pelvis done at the earliest to rule out any remaining products of conception once the bleeding subsides. A repeat pregnancy test will not help as they become negative only 4 weeks after the termination is complete. If the scan shows POC or clots, you may require medical termination of pregnancy via D&C or through pills. This can be discussed with your Gynaecologist(consult online) after the scan results.

  • Folic acid deficiency anemia - irritability, diarrhea, and a smooth tongue
  • Hemolytic anemia - jaundice, dark colored urine, fever, and abdominal pains
  • Sickle cell anemia - painful swelling of the feet and hands, fatigue, and jaundice
