• Droopy Eyelid - Natural Remedies for Sagging Eyelids

Sagging of the upper eyelids is a condition in which the upper eyelids fall to a position lower than the normal, giving the eyes a droopy appearance. Medically, this condition is known as blepharoptosis or ptosis and occurs with the weakening of levators muscles that help in lifting the eyelids. Severe cases can lead to obstruction of vision as the drooping eyelid can partially or completely obstruct the pupil. If this condition is severe and is left untreated, it can lead to amblyopia (lazy eyes) in children or astigmatism, both causing impairment of vision.

How do sagging upper eyelids look?

The drooping eyelid narrows the opening of the eye, making it appear smaller than normal. In some cases, the fold of skin between the upper eyelid and eyebrow is lost. The person suffering from this condition may unconsciously try to compensate for the limited vision by raising eyebrows and may have a surprised look on his or her face.

    Self-Diagnosis of Ptosis

Look straight into a mirror, a sizable part of the eye should be visible above the pupil. No part of the pupil should be covered by the eyelid

What causes sagging of the upper eyelids/ptosis?

The most common cause of sagging of the upper eyelids is weakening of the levator muscles due to age. Mechanical damage to the eye due to injury, corrective surgery, or cataract surgery can also cause this condition. Autoimmune diseases like myasthenia gravis and diabetes mellitus, medical conditions like tumors of the brain and lungs, as well as certain toxins like those from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum (the causative agent of botulism) and the snake black mamba can also lead to ptosis.

How to fix sagging of the upper eyelids?

Severe cases of ptosis can only be rectified with surgical intervention. For milder cases where surgery may be unnecessary, here are some natural and easy-to-follow remedies to help alleviate the condition.

    Cucumber:

Cucumbers are rich in caffeic acid and ascorbic acid. They help in maintaining smooth, healthy, and glowing skin. They also help in reduction of inflammation and tightening of the skin. Place a chilled slice of cucumber over the affected area and leave it on for 15-20 minutes and rinse it off with cool water. This not only helps in reducing the sagginess of the eyelids but also prevents their occurrence.

    Chamomile tea:

Chamomile contains high levels of antioxidants like terpenoids and flavonoids. Chill the chamomile tea bags in the refrigerator and apply it to the eyelids for 20-25 minutes. Regular application of this would help reduce sagginess of the eyelids.

    Aloe Vera Mask:

Aloe vera has skin tightening and astringent properties. It also helps to soothe skin and improve its elasticity. A pack of four teaspoons of aloe vera gel, four teaspoons of yoghurt and two teaspoons of oatmeal with a few slices of cucumber, when applied for 10-20 minutes, can help tighten saggy eyelids.

    Egg White Mask:

Eggs white contains biotin and collagen that are required for maintaining elasticity of the skin. Topically applying the egg white to the upper eyelid can immediately reduce sagging. Continuous usage has long-term benefits and may restore the skin’s elasticity. It is important to wait for the egg white to dry out before washing it off with cold water.

    Grapes:

Grapes have high quantities of polyphenols like resveratrol that have anti-ageing and anti-inflammatory properties. The inclusion of grapes in diet and topical application of grape juice can not only reduce drooping of the upper eyelids and also prevent fine lines and wrinkles from appearing.

    Cold water/ice:

Application of ice always helps in the reduction of inflammation by constricting blood vessels. Ice cubes and very cold water can be highly effective in lessening droopiness of the eyelids.

Apart from these natural remedies, certain exercises can also help in reducing sagging of the upper eyelids.

Exercise for Sagging Eyelids - 1

    Exercise 1

Place three fingers from each hand under each eyebrow. The palms need to be relaxed and can touch your face. Use your fingers to gently push the eyebrows as high as possible, while ensuring that your eyes are wide open. Hold it this way for about five seconds. Push down the forehead muscles to create resistance to the fingertips and hold this position for another five seconds. Repeat the exercise for 5-10 times a day. This helps in strengthening the forehead muscles and lifts the eyebrow.

Exercise for Sagging Eyelids - 2

    Exercise 2

Raise the eyebrows as high as possible while keeping your eyes wide open. Hold the position for five seconds before slowly lowering your eyebrows. Repeat the exercise 5-10 times a day. This exercise also helps in strengthening the muscles of the eyebrow area.

Exercise for Sagging Eyelids - 3

    Exercise 3

Close your eyes and gently place an index finger on each of the eyelids. Ensure that your elbows are stretched out while doing so. Apply a gentle pressure on the eyelids and hold for five seconds. Repeat this exercise 5-10 times a day. This exercise helps to tone the eyelid.

Exercise for Sagging Eyelids - 4

    Exercise 4

Place the index finger under each eyebrow, gently pressing against the brow bone. Slowly close your eyes and gently pull the eyelids together. Hold this position for about five seconds and relax. Repeat it 5 times a day. This helps strengthen the levators.

Exercise for Sagging Eyelids - 5

    Exercise 5

Place four fingers below each of the eyebrows and gently press against your brow bone. Hold for five seconds and gradually move your upper eyelids downwards. Hold it in this position for an additional 5 seconds and gradually release your eyelids. Repeat the exercise five times. This helps in lifting the upper eyelids.

How can sagging of the upper eyelids be prevented?

A research conducted in Netherlands and England suggested that higher BMI, lighter skin color, being male, and age increased the prevalence of saggy eyelids. Higher BMI leads to greater fat accumulation under the eyelids resulting in an increased gravitational pull on the eyelids. Sagging eyelids in people with lighter skin may be due to UV-induced damage to the skin. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and protecting the eye from UV rays by wearing sunglasses and sunscreens may prevent the occurrence of drooping eyelids to some extent.

  • Does Masturbation Cause Hair Loss?

Apart from the satisfying feeling that masturbation gives, there are also some side effects that tag along if you do it too often. Widely experienced, masturbation has a role to play in your receding hair line. The seminal fluid that is released when one masturbates is composed of 10% protein and 90% water. Hence when a person masturbates, the excessive ejection of the seminal fluid may lead to a protein deficiency in the body, further leading to hair loss. The protein is responsible for the repair of the tissues of the body and also hair growth.

The testosterone levels also increase at the point of ejaculation where the testosterone gets converted into DHT.

As a human’s scalp is sensitive to DHT, excessive masturbation can lead to hair loss. Therefore, if a person is addicted to masturbation, there is a good chance that the person may experience hair loss.

Stages of masturbation that aggravates hair loss

Depending on one’s frequency and severity of masturbation, men go through four broad stages of masturbation. Sexual exhaustion leading to hair loss can be broadly categorised into four main stages. They are as follows:

    1. Problematic Hair Loss:

This is the initial stage of losing hair caused due to over masturbation. It can be seen among males aged between 16 to 30 years. This stage is marked with receding hairlines along with other symptoms like fatigue and mood swings.

    2. Severe Hair Loss:

Excessive masturbating lifestyle leads to loss of hair especially on the top front part of the head. Chronic masturbators in this stage experience added symptoms like back pain, mood swings, disturbed sleep, and fatigue.

    3. Very Severe Hair Loss:

If a man in his 20s continues excessive masturbation for years later, he might develop a bald spot almost as much as the size of an orange. He may also face similar symptoms like the ones in Severe Hair Loss accompanied with insomnia and anxiety.

    4. Extremely Severe Hair Loss:

In this stage, the baldness reaches its extreme level where there is hardly any hair left on the head. This predicament may be accompanied with prostate problems and a suppressed immune system.

Chronic Masturbation Speeds Up Hair Loss

Self-satisfaction is an important part of a person’s mental peace. It has been scientifically proved that masturbation helps one maintain a healthy immune system and a healthy lifestyle. It releases tension and lowers blood pressure in stressful situations. However, there are many who are addicted to masturbation and can make them a chronic masturbator over time. If this stage arrives, he or she will strive to achieve orgasm multiple times in an hour or a day. If this rigorous practice continues, it will speed up the process of hair loss.

It is observed that chronic masturbators lose most of their hair before they turn thirty years, because of sexual exhaustion.

    Masturbation and Genetics

Largely observed, chronic masturbators along with their practice of masturbating multiple times in a day are also affected genetically when it comes to hair loss. If a man inherits it through his genes, he will suffer from male pattern baldness regardless of being a chronic masturbator or not.

    male pattern baldness

If one has early balding in their genes, then excessive masturbation may trigger the balding gene leading to extreme hair loss.

    Masturbation and DHT levels

Masturbation creates a chemical reaction that secretes a number of hormones, proteins and neurotransmitters. After a person reaches orgasm, the ejaculation triggers the transformation of testosterone to DTH. If a large amount of ejaculation takes place in less number of days, a huge amount of DHT gets built up. The scalp is attacked by this built up which affects the nutritional supply to the hair roots.

    masturbation and DHT level

DHT also stimulates a gland called sebaceous gland which is responsible for maintaining the oil content of your scalp which maintains the nutritional level required for healthy hair.

    Should You Stop Masturbating?

Masturbation is a rejuvenating exercise and a part of a healthy sex life. Many types of research show that there are several health benefits of masturbating such as:
    1. Prevents cancer
    2. Increases immunity
    3. Boosts your mood
    4. Helps your sex last longer
    5. Manages premature ejaculation
    6. Improves sperm motility
    7. Manages stress and depression
    8. Prevents from STDs and pregnancy

Considering all the above aspects, an excess of any activity may create unhealthy imbalances in the body and mind. If the practice of masturbation over rules your senses, it can cause many issues in the present time as well as in the future.

    What is the solution?

Combating hair fall caused due to excessive masturbation can be done in many ways.

    1. You can take a break for a few days from masturbating and having sex, or at least stop yourself at the point of ejaculation. By doing this, you will not use up your proteins and DHT levels.
    2. Medication for deficiencies can also help largely to inhibit DHT production along with some dietary changes.
3.You can also approach a sex doctor and consume safe supplements for a faster result.
4.Many doctors also suggest yoga and exercise so that the body remains active and the protein and DHT level is maintained.
    5. There are some natural solutions for better hair that you can try

Hair fall cannot be only linked to masturbation but a number of factors such as genetics, lifestyle, medications, DHT sensitivity etc. Masturbation within limits is NOT the cause of hair fall.

  • Great Tips for Caring For Your Feet

Although our feet are out bodies’ workhorses, very few of us give them the care and respect they deserve. The feet take on much a beating from daily activities such as being smothered inside sweaty socks, tight pantyhose’s, or even jammed into high heels. A simple activity such as jogging or even walking exerts too much pressure on your feet. This is one of the reasons why your feet are more susceptible to injury than many other body parts.

Although you may not know this, you never have to spend any money to care for your feet. Choosing the right shoes to wear, for instance, can go a long way to caring for your feet. Spending a few coins on foot massage can also help alleviate pain or even prevent disability. Outlined below are a few tips on how you can care for your feet.

The first step to caring for your feet is by keeping them clean by washing them each time you take a shower. You however should clean between the toes with a washcloth to remove any dirt hence prevent bacteria or fungus build up. If balancing on one foot is hard for you, you can then use a long-handled soft brush to clean the toes, or just sit on a chair while cleaning the toes. Soap both the toes and the ankles then rinse it off with water. Dry the feet correctly using a soft towel to prevent fungus or bacterial infestation.

Although most people use Epson salts to soak their feet, it would be much better (and healthier) going for pure warm water. Consider adding a little liquid soap in the warm water to improve its effectiveness. Washing your feet helps keep the skin moisturized thus preventing possible drying, especially during the dry winter season. Basic creams and lotion can come in handy here.

Alternating your shoes each day can also help maintain healthy feet. By having at least two pairs of shoes to alternate every day, you reduce the risk of triggering infection as there will be proper aeration in the same. Do the same with socks to prevent an infection as well. If your feet are already infected (or smelly feet), then consider washing them with pure water and vinegar to kill the microbes.

Tight shoes cause more harm to your feet than you can think of. To begin with, tight shoes not only cause painful foot growths but also distort toe shape. Putting on shoes higher than two inches also increases the risk of developing sciatica pains on the back. You should, therefore, go for solid, comfortable shoes to prevent all this. Putting on shoes with wide toe boxes protects the Achilles tendons from shortening, thus eliminating pain or injury.
Foot massages can really help too and make a big difference to the circulation of your feet. You can get one done by a professional, or you can purchase one of the best foot massage machines on the market – they do an equally as good of job.

While flip-flops are comfortable in the house, they do not provide any arch support to your feet. Walking bare feet doesn’t provide arch support either, which is why you need to reduce the amount of time you spend barefooted or in flip flops.

Diabetes, aging, and pregnancies also affect your feet in many different ways. Pregnant women need shoes with proper arch support to help their feet handle the added weight, as well as act as shock absorbers. Diabetics and seniors also need to check with podiatric physicians for help on how to take care of their feet.

Cleanliness in salons, especially the instruments and tubs is also vital for your feet health. People with diabetes also need to check with their doctors before getting a pedicure.

  • The 11 Commandments of Clean, Clear Skin

Clear skin can be achieved with some little changes to the way you live your life and treat your skin. Take a look at our tips. We asked our dermatologists and this is what they have to say.

Change your pillowcase weekly. Regardless of your sleeping position, your pillowcase will collect oil and dirt from your hair and face. If you toss and turn, it will be worse. If you sleep on a dirty pillowcase, you’ll be putting that dirt on your face at night. Switch your pillowcase, weekly to prevent dirt build-up.

Keep your hands off your face. You have a lot of bacteria and pollutants on your hands, that come from the doorknobs, elevator buttons, and keyboards you touch during your day. When you touch your skin, you put these bacteria on your face. If you need to distract your hand, hold something like a stress ball or pen. If your hands are busy, you won’t touch your face.

Cut back on your greasy foods. A major cause of acne is excess oil. That’s why you should avoid greasy foods if you want to prevent pimples. Eat baked alternatives instead of fried foods. If possible, cut out fatty and fast foods.

    clean clear skin

Use cleansers containing salicylic acid. Ladies who have acne-prone skin should use a cleanser containing salicylic acid. This can help you prevent acne and fight pimples. Use the cleanser twice a day. Use a moisturizer afterward. Acne-fighting cleansers will dry out your skin.

Wash your face before and after your workout. When you go outside, even if you’re not wearing makeup, your skin will be exposed to pollutants and bacteria. If you’re exercising, these bacteria will get into your pores and mix with your sweat. That’s why you should wash your face before your workout and after your workout. Use a quality cleaner for your face such as Proactiv – it works on most skin types and we’ve seen a lot of positive feedback. So, does Proactive really work? From what I can see, yes.

It’s important to remove the bacteria, dirt, and sweat from your face. If you keep your face clean, there’s no chance of getting dirt into your pores and clog them, which can cause acne. This also happens to your body. The faster you can change out of your sweaty clothes and take a shower, the better your chance of avoiding body acne.

Use less makeup. When possible, you should avoid using full face foundation. On these days, you should just use concealers in certain areas. This will help you avoid clogging the pores on your face.

    clean clear skin

Wash your hands, then wash your face. No one wants to think about cleaning their hands first, but think about how much sense it makes. If you use your hands, instead of a muslin cloth or washcloth, you want to make sure your hands are clean. Dirty hands will put bacteria directly on your skin and then rub it in. Do a fast hand washing before cleaning your face. This will give your face the best results.

Reduce your stress. Stress can cause acne breakouts which can help reduce stress, which can reduce skin issues. Whether you listen to calm music, write in your journal, or practice yoga, it’s important to find a way to reduce stress, which can dramatically and positively affect your skin.

Exercise twice a week or more. Exercise doesn’t just help with stress reduction, it can also increase blood flow to your body, which means your skin will receive more oxygen. This will help keep your skin clean and fresh. Exercise can help to flush bacteria and toxins from your skin, which helps to prevent acne.

Use a Separate Face Towel. If you have a towel to dry your hands and body after washing, you should not use it for your face. If you dry your face with the same towel, you’re going to put excess bacteria from your hands and body on your face, which can lead to acne. Separate your towel so that you can use it specifically for your face. You should have separate towels for your face, drying your body, your wet hair and for washing your hair. Keeping your towels separate can help to prevent acne which is caused by pollutants and bacteria.

  • Dealing With Yellow Stains On Your Nails? Here's How To Fix That

Yellow stains on toe nails look unsavoury and really can limit the confidence you have showing your feet. Here are some great tips researched by our dermatologists on how to get rid of them.

Use The Power Of Lemon Juice

Nail stains can be readily removed using lemon juice because of the natural acids it contains. Squeeze the juice from a freshly sliced lemon and, using a cotton swab, rub the juice onto your nails.

On the other hand, you can also pick up the halved lemon and use it to rub the juice directly onto your toenails. However, because the juice can harm your cuticles and surrounding skin because of the acid, don't soak your nails in the lemon juice.

    Let Baking Soda Cleanse Them

Another effective way to remove nails stains is baking soda. You can use it to scrub off those persistent nail stains by making a paste with baking soda and pure lemon juice.

Evenly apply the paste underneath the nail tips and on the nails. Allow the paste to remain in place for 10 to 12 minutes. Then, use soap and water to wash it off.

    yellow toenails

Sit Down For A Hydrogen Peroxide Soak

When it comes to removing stains naturally, hydrogen peroxide has earned a great reputation. You can directly soak you nails in a solution made using three parts water to one part hydrogen peroxide for up to 10 minutes. To gain best results, soak your nails for a few days in a row.

    Medical Systems

There are a number of medicines and systems on the market that come in gel and cream form that are renowned for getting rid of toe nail staining. http://www.yellowtoenailscured.com provides information on a variety of these and is worth consulting if you want a proven cure.

    Apply A Denture Cleanser

When it comes to the removal of stains from a hard surface, denture cleaners sold commercially do a great job. Read the instructions on the product before using and place your nails into the recommended solution for five minutes. Repeat this process up to three times each week followed by a rinse with warm water.

Brush Them With A Toothpaste That Whitens

There are toothpastes on the market designed with whitening teeth in mind. Those products also do a good job on nails. Simply use a toothbrush earmarked for your nails, apply the tooth paste, and start scrubbing. After about five minutes, rinse the paste away using warm water.

Remove Stains Using An Essential Oil

Those hard to remove stains on your nails will disappear when you use essential oils. Try soaking your nails in an infusion using just a few drops of essential oil made with lemon in a water solution. The process is effective and gentle and yields a bright effect.

    Yellow Toenails using Essential Oil

Allow Vinegar To Whiten Yellow Toenails

Yellowish stains on the nails can be removed using vinegar. However, the white vinegar variety works best. Your nails may pick up additional stains if you use any other type. Rub it directly onto your nails using a cotton ball and let it do its work.

You can also place the vinegar into a solution and soak your nails for a few minutes each day to lighten your nails. It's a quick process that should be regularly repeated to maintain your nails in good condition.

  • Heal Cold Sores Using These Tried And True Methods

Its cold sore season now and many of us will find that our lips are becoming a little tingly and eventually sore. So, what’s the best way of getting rid of a cold sore ASAP?

Rub Your Cold Sores Away With Rubbing Alcohol

Rubbing alcohol helps cold sores to heal by drying them out. It may sound counter-intuitive, but there is a reason that it works. When the alcohol is applied, bacteria can't gain a foothold in the dry area. That's why applying rubbing alcohol helps to speed the healing process. Rubbing alcohol is readily available. Drug stores carry 70% solutions sold over-the-counter. Hold a cotton swab soaked with this solution on the cold sore. You can also apply it to the cold sore using a Q-tip and allow evaporation to occur.

Soften The Sore With Petroleum Jelly

Alcohol and petroleum work in opposite ways, but both get the job done. Because the jelly contains natural emollients, it softens the irritated skin. The risk of infection with bacteria is reduced due to the thickness of the jelly which bacteria cannot pass. Cold sores last for shorter periods of time when bacterial infections are kept at bay. Apply a thin layer of jelly directly onto the cold sore using clean fingers. Keep applying all day until the cold sore heals.

    Cold Sores on Lips

    Be Open to Medical Cures

There are a number of cures that can help relieve herpes and get rid of cold sore blisters. These generally come in a gel or cream form and can be potentially very effective. http://www.coldsorescured.com/ provides a list and reviews of a variety of these different cures and it’s worth taking a look.

Vanilla Extract As An Anti-Infection Agent

Many people are surprised to learn that vanilla does much more than simply make foods taste great. This good smelling natural extract helps to heal cold sores quickly because of the anti-infection properties it contains that fight infections due to viruses. In addition, it also acts as an anti-inflammatory which reduces the amount of pain caused by these sores. However. only natural vanilla works so don't waste your time using the artificial stuff.

Get a square of sterile gauze or a cotton swab and place a couple of drops of 100% pure vanilla extract on it. Use this to directly apply the vanilla to the cold soar. Be sure to completely cover the sore. Every six hours, repeat this process.

Dry The Skin With Tea Tree Oil

For centuries, people have been using tea tree oil to dry and correct unwanted blemishes in the skin. Tea tree oil works on cold sores in a similar manner. Initially, it effectively and rapidly dries the skin. Next, its antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal, and antiseptic properties work on the sore itself. Overnight, you can expect the size of the sore to be reduced by half. The anti-inflammatory properties of tea tree oil reduce pain levels while preventing the sore from growing. Tea tree oil should be applied two times a day by using a cotton swab to dab it onto the affected site.

    Cold Sores on Lips

Heal Broken Skin Using Sea Salt

Cold sores heal more quickly when sea salt is used, even though the initial application may sting. Sea salt heals skin that is broken and inflamed because of minerals that it contains.

Start with eight oz of warm water and add a single teaspoon of sea salt to get the right solution. Stir until the salt is completely dissolved and then apply it directly to the cold sore using a cotton swab. If parts of the cold sore are on the inside of the lip or within the mouth, this sea salt solution may also be used as a mouth rinse.

Consult a doctor if problem is not solved

If the conditions is not improving, you must find a doctor. Usually problems like cold sores, can be easily diagnosed by an online doctor as well.

3.Dry hair are often due to harsh sun exposure or exposure to dry arid climates. This can make your hair brittle as well and lead to increased hair loss. Although some hairloss does occur due to hereditary conditions, depending on the pattern and your gender, it could also be due to stress or your body dealing with dehydration.

4.Nutritional deficiencies especially Vitamin A, Zinc, etc is common in people who diet, because low calorie diets also affect the total nutrition that goes to your hair. Omega-3-fatty acids are good for your hair and your heart too, so don't try to skip foods good for your hair next time you go on a diet.

5.Greying of hair may or may not be a hereditary issue. Thyroid problems, Vitiligo, Vitamin B deficiency and low Zinc diet can also cause premature ageing of hair.

6.Hairloss may also be a part of the side effects caused by many medications like anti-clotting (blood thinners), medicines for cholesterol, NSAIDs(certain pain relievers) and anti-depressants.

Overall it is important to take a balanced diet to keep your hair healthy and remember these points above when you notice a hair problem to see how you may be able t solve it.
