Detailed Question:

Hello doctor,

I am 36 year old male, facing acne/pimples only on the left cheek of my face for quite some time. They are fairly large pimples but are dry and do not ooze any liquid and are red in color. There is slight pain when pressed on some of them.

The acne never subsides completely and reemerges periodically and takes a long time to heal. I maintain good hygiene and wash my face regularly with a face wash and mild soaps and also do not apply any cream or moisturizer on a regular basis.

Further since I have a desk job I am not exposed to the elements such as sun, air pollutants etc. Please advise on any cream or skin lotion which I can use to eliminate this problem. Till now I have been using Surfaz SN cream on them. It used to effective earlier but now it doesn't make any difference now.

For Acne, we usually advise to observe simple hygiene. Since acne is a problem that is only carried by oily skin, it is important to keep your face clear and clean. It can also be caused due to diet and genetic reasons.

Use a facewash that suits you to wash your face as many times as you notice it getting oily, sweaty or sticky. Try to keep your skin away from pollution. You can use a lemon scrub over your face to keep the skin oil-free, once the oil subsides, slowly the Acne problem will too go away.

Do not use any lotion or cream such as Surfaz since these over long term use can cause bigger problems and worse acne. Give your skin time to heal on its own and get free of acne rather than take lifelong treatment for it. Avoid pinching the pimples and ignore if you get a new breakout. It may increase initially but should normalize eventually. Remember the skin always takes time and heals on its own. Consult again if there is no improvement.
