My sister has problem of blockage in vein & extreme pain in head. She recovered from a benign brain tumor but pain in head persists. Doctor has prohibited use of mobile phone too. Why and how to treat this?
Last Updated - Fri, Mar 16 2018Detailed Question:
My sister is 21 years old. She has pain in the back left side of the brain, which starts from morning and increases as the day passes on. She has weak right leg and difficulty in writing with right hand. It has been one month now. After writing for sometime, her hand stops to respond in the class.
She also has pain just little above the ear and feeling of nausea. One year ago, she was diagnosed with a 4 cm benign brain tumor. But she got cured with medicine, without surgery or chemo in March 2015. But in August 2015, Migraine was detected. Migraine pain lasted for 3-5 days during which she took several medicines. Side effects led to big rashes on skin.
For the last two days there was no problem in her right hand and right leg, but pain in the head was extreme. After examining, doctor said she has blockage in vein and strictly prohibited her from using mobile phone for 1 month. Doctor has prescribed medicines and said after 1 month, there will be an MRI scan. Now I want to know -
1. What are the causes of blockage in vein?
2. How to prevent it?
3. What is the relation between blockage in vein and the use of mobile phone ? What is/are the problem(s) if she uses mobile phone during this time?
Thank you

The problem she is suffering from is a Thrombosis. The block in her veins can be due to many reasons, none of which we can pinpoint at this stage. What is more important is the treatment that she needs to take for it and the medications prescribed. Also the benign brain tumor can cause these symptoms, hence you may consult with a Neurologist with the reports of the latest MRI scan done to rule out anything serious or life threatening.
The venous blockage cannot be prevented, but studies show that there is improvement with exercise daily. Mobile phones are said to increase radiation near the brain when used at the ear level and that radiation may cause worse damage or even dislodge the thrombus (clot) from her vein to another more critical area which can become fatal. Thus she must avoid mobile phones at this time, however, this theory has also been undocumented and may or may not help. For online consultation, visit JustDoc.
